Clay B Jacobs is a man of many hats—mostly riding helmets and top-tier equestrian ops caps. As the owner of Sporthorse and Sporthorse Campus, he’s dedicated to building top-class environments for high-performance horses and the people who love them.
When he’s not steering the ship at Sporthorse, Clay keeps the engine running smooth as Director of Operations at Performance Equine Vets, making sure elite equine athletes get world-class care from stable to clinic. Whether managing complex clinical logistics or creating state-of-the-art horse facilities, Clay lives and breathes the sporthorse world—with just enough coffee to keep up with it all.

Sabrina Jacobs, DVM – Owner
Dr. Sabrina Jacobs is the owner and founder of the Performance Equine Vets and Performance Vet Supply. A Texas native, she graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Dr. Jacobs has a particular interest in advanced reproductive techniques. She has performed thousands of oocyte recoveries and embryo transfers. Dr. Jacobs is proficient at performing the most complicated embryological procedures, such as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Embryo Biopsy for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) and Embryo Vitrification (Embryo Freezing). Tasked with leading the team, she is passionate about optimizing every detail of the process to ensure the best possible results. Dr. Jacobs is held in high regard by colleagues and clients alike for her advanced skills, leadership and deeply caring attitude. Dr. Jacobs is a professional member of the American Associateion of Equine Practioners (AAEP), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the Society for Theriogenology (SFT). She is licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the states of South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina and Tennessee.
In her free time, Sabrina enjoys tinkering in her ever growing garden and spending time with her husband Clay and daughter Ansley.
Stephanie Caston, DVM, Diplomate ACVS – LA Surgeon
Dr. Caston grew up in Southeast Texas, she is a specialist veterinary surgeon and a 2002 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. After completing a one year internship at Iowa State University, she remained on staff to finish her surgical training and achieve her diplomate status. Dr. Caston then accepted a position and spent the next 15 years at Iowa State in academia servicing an extensive sport horse community in both surgery and advanced lameness diagnosis. Dr. Caston has been actively involved in numerous research projects including, complicated lameness, orthopedic and musculoskeletal surgeries, emergency surgical colic interventions, advanced imaging and regenerative medicine. She has authored dozens of scientific papers and book chapters on topics ranging from orthopedic and musculoskeletal surgery, developmental orthopedic disease, minimally invasive procedures, advanced upper airway surgical techniques, as well as regenerative therapies including Stem Cells, IRAP and PRP. As a recognized specialist in her field, Dr. Caston is an invited speaker in both national and international conferences on various topics each year. Dr. Caston is involved as an active competitor in Three-Day Eventing. She utilizes this unique knowledge daily as she applies her experience as a rider to her profession as a Veterinarian.
When she is not working, Dr. Caston enjoys competing her own horses in eventing, fox hunting, and spending time with her dogs.
Lindsay Knott, DVM, Diplomate ACVS – LA Surgeon
Dr. Lindsay Knott, DVM, DACVS, is a board-certified equine surgeon whose lifelong passion for horses began while growing up on Long Island, New York. An avid rider from an early age, she competed in hunter/jumper disciplines and gained hands-on experience breaking and training horses—experiences that inspired her to pursue a veterinary career.
Dr. Knott earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Binghamton University before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in 2017 with awards in both equine medicine and surgery. She went on to complete internships at Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery in Weatherford, Texas, and Louisiana State University, followed by a large animal surgery residency at Michigan State University. In 2025, she achieved board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS).
Her clinical interests include orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, lameness, and post-operative rehabilitation, where she focuses on helping horses recover and return to soundness.
Outside of her work, she enjoys hiking, CrossFit, yoga, traveling, and spending time with her Jack Russell terrier, Wesley—a spirited tripod pup who keeps her on her toes.
Kaitlyn Ieradi, DVM, Surgeon
Dr Ieradi is a large animal emergency surgeon. She completed a rigorous Large Animal Surgery Residency and Master of Science degree at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Ieradi previously trained through equine medicine and surgery internships at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Her clinical interests include large animal surgery, anesthesia, and internal medicine, with a strong focus on emergency and critical care cases.
Brittland Hughes, DVM
Dr. Britt Hughes grew up competing in the hunter jumper circuit in Ohio. She went on to pursue her equine studies at the University of Kentucky then obtained her veterinary degree at The Ohio State University. She completed an internship at Palm Beach Equine Clinic and went on to work in the thoroughbred racing industry in the Northeast. She also worked in Charlotte, North Carolina focusing on a variety of performance sport horses including hunter jumper, dressage, eventing, and steeplechase.
In her personal life, Dr. Hughes enjoys running marathons, competing her 7 yo Thoroughbred ‘Townley’ and trail riding her 32 yo Oldenburg ‘Lucky’
Jose Zambrano – Veterinary Assistant, Stallion Manager
Born in Michoacan, Mexico, Jose began his career in the United States in 1991. His addiction to horses began at the racetrack Delaware Park, where he began as a groom and was promoted to the title of Assistant Trainer. After spending 15 years working at Delaware Park, Jose relocated to Aiken with his family. Jose joined Performance Equine Vets in 2014. He naturally became the head stallion handler with his gentle nature and calming personality, he is truly an asset to our operation.
Jose is the proud father of three wonderful children, Pepe, Heidi, and Omar. Jose enjoys managing his elaborate garden and spending time riding his horses while he is away from the hospital.
Cheyanne Hill – Veterinary Assistant, Hospital Administrator
Cheyanne is a lowcountry native from Beaufort, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina Aiken with a B.S. in Biology. She joined the PEVs team in 2019. Cheyanne works directly with the internal medicine department overseeing quality patient care and customer service. She loves all of her patients, but especially the adorable, sassy foals!
Cheyanne started up a small farm of her own and enjoys riding in her spare time. She has a female yellow Labrador named Beans who has been coming to work and going everywhere with her since she was a puppy.
Mandy Kneece – Veterinary Assistant, Hospital Administrator
Mandy was born and raised in the Carolinas and has lived in Aiken for over 8 years. She started her veterinary medicine career almost 15 years ago at a small animal specialty clinic in Columbia, SC. After 12 years she decided her love for horses is what she wanted to pursue and she joined our team. Mandy works directly with the Sports Medicine and Surgery department.
She enjoys spending her days off with her husband and three beautiful children on their tiny little farm that houses 4 dogs and 2 horses!
Alissa Rast – Laboratory Manager
Alissa is a veterinary assistant with 6 years of experience in veterinary medicine, including the past 2 years as a laboratory manager. She especially enjoys internal medicine and laboratory work and loves the opportunity to combine her hands-on patient care experience with her passion for diagnostics and helping pets feel their best.
Outside of work, she stays busy with her three cats and her Paint Horse. When she’s not spending time with her animals, she can usually be found reading a good book or caring for her ever-growing collection of plants. 🌿📚
Amelia Garrett – Veterinary Assistant
Amelia Garrett was born and raised in South Alabama and has been working in veterinary medicine since 2021. She met Dr. Ieradi during her time at LSU and eventually followed her to Performance Equine Vets.
In her spare time, Amelia enjoys riding, going on adventures, and spending time with her perfect niece.
Amy Davis – Veterinary Assistant
Amy is from a small town in South Carolina. She has always had an enthusiastic love for all animals, especially horses. She’s been an equine veterinary assistant with 4 years of experience and has really enjoyed learning about how they work from the inside out.
When she’s not here caring for patients, she’s cuddled up with her pittie Paisleigh and taking her on adventures. She loves spending time with family and friends over a nice large queso.

Karlene Turley – Veterinary Assistant
Karlene was born and raised in Chicago, where she grew up riding and working in lesson barns. She began her veterinary career 13 years ago in a small animal hospital. After attending the University of Kentucky, she transitioned to working with horses and has spent the past 11 years working in the equine industry.
Throughout her career, Karlene has had the opportunity to live in four different states and work in many different areas of the horse industry, but her passion has always been equine medicine.
In her spare time, Karlene enjoys being outdoors, working on her own farm, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her animals. She is also completing her equine massage therapy certification, which has brought her a new joy in helping horses rehabilitate, recover, and relax.
Melissa Brown – Veterinary Assistant
Melissa has been passionate about horses for as long as she can remember and has been fortunate to own them for more than 20 years. She has also spent over a decade working in veterinary medicine.
Melissa raises her own herd of 10 Brabant draft horses and mules on her family’s multi-generational farmland, combining her love of horses, agriculture, and veterinary medicine in her everyday life.

Shannon is an Aiken native who started her career in veterinary medicine in 1996 as a small animal assistant and wildlife rehabilitee. Having ridden horses from a young age, always caring for her own on her small farm, equine medicine is close to her heart. She recently joined the PEVs team in 2024 taking care of the equine hospital patients. She is a mother of 5 children and multiple small animals of various species. She enjoys spending time with her family and animals on her small farm in Montmorenci!
Heather Carberry – Care Team Manager
A lifelong equestrian, Heather Carberry began competing in Hunter/Jumpers as a child before earning her degree in Equine Science – Facility Management from Otterbein University. Her background includes experience as a Veterinary Assistant, Barn Manager, and Head Groom for an international dressage rider, with recognition as the Grooms Award recipient at Dressage at Devon. She now competes nationally with her Belgian Malinois in dog sports.
Carole Oates – Care Team
Carole has been involved in the horse industry for many years. She managed her own eventing and dressage barn in several states, including New Jersey, Maryland, Kentucky, and South Carolina. She also spent 12 years working as a Standardbred racehorse groom and 7 years managing Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Kentucky.
These days, Carole is enjoying a slower pace of life, spending her time trail riding her Standardbred, living on her farm with her husband, and enjoying the company of her many pets.

Elizabeth Suarez – Theriogenology – BE
Dr. Elizabeth Suarez hails from Mexico City, where she studied Veterinary Medicine at Universidad del Valle de México. She gained valuable experience working for three years on a breeding farm in her hometown.
Dr. Suarez completed a one-year internship at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, followed by a residency in Reproduction at the New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her cat, Bilbo, baking, exploring the outdoors, and watching movies and series.
Lilie Sandoval –
Theriogenology – BE
Dr. Leslie Sandoval Rosales was born and raised in Mexico City, where she developed a lifelong passion for animals and their care. She earned her degree in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she also completed an internship and specialization in Equine Medicine.
Following her studies, Dr. Sandoval spent two years at Los Alamitos Equine Clinic in California, gaining extensive hands-on experience in equine health and performance medicine while working closely with horses at the Los Alamitos Race Track. She then went on to complete a residency in Large Animal Theriogenology at the prestigious New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania, where she refined her expertise in artificial reproductive techniques and large animal care.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Sandoval enjoys spending time with her amazing poodle, Ponyo, and relaxing at the beach. She loves traveling, organizing parties, hiking, photography, and building Legos. When she’s not outdoors, you can often find her playing board games with her family and friends.

Sam was born in Michigan and moved here when she started high school. She married her high school sweetheart, and together they have two beautiful children who mean the world to her.
When she’s not busy with life and family, Sam can usually be found sitting on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying her time off. 🏖️☀️❤️
Winter Thompson – Client Services
Born and raised in beautiful South Carolina, Winter has called Aiken home for the past 15 years. When she’s not enjoying the simple things in life, she can usually be found cooking up something in the kitchen, out fishing, or getting lost in a good book.
Most of all, Winter enjoys spending quality time with her other half, Clayton, and their two spoiled pets, Dexter, their dog, and Brussels, their cat. They’re a big part of what makes life so special to her.
